The detachable option is the most popular for this particular vehicle due to the ability to remove the towbar neck from the underneath the vehicle. This ensures that when you are not towing, the vehicles aesthetics resume, with no towbar or towing electrics visible. The detachable bar is also a great option for those who are only occasionally towing. Vehicle Specific Towing Electrics: 7 or 13 pin?
When you are towing a standard trailer or have a lighting board attached and even a bike carrier, a 7-pin vehicle specific kit will enable all of your light functions for this job. A 7-pin Vehicle Specific Single Electrics kit provides all of the basic legal lighting requirements for towing and harnesses perfectly with your car. We never fit by-pass or universal electrics to your vehicle!
You will need a 13-pin Vehicle Specific Electrics kit for towing a caravan with your Mercedes GLC to provide all of the legal lighting requirements for towing, as well as powering the electrics inside your caravan. Most caravans, manufactured after January 2009, will have 13-pin electrics and will also connect to your reverse lights whilst providing a full power supply inside your caravan. Please note if you have the older 12n 12s style electrics we will still fit the latest electrics to your vehicle and then simply provide a 12n 12s to 13 pin adapter.
A Fixed or Detachable Towbar?
Both the fixed and detachable swan neck towbars fitted by our mechanics are compatible for use with the AL-KO stabiliser without the requirement of a replacement ball. The fixed swan neck towbar is less compatible with common accessories such as bumper protectors or tow-steps with the detachable bar being more suitable for vehicles with parking sensors. In most instances, the towbar is completely invisible once the neck of the towbar has been removed. The removal of the detachable towbar neck allows free access to the rear of the vehicle, with the ability to lock the neck in place using a key.
